OVERHEAD, STIFFLEG DERRICKS, SIDE BOOMS, ATICULATED CRANES and TOWER CRANES
The above mentioned cranes have unique design differences and operating parameters that we can judge the performance and compliance for our customers. Over the years that our inspectors have operated, maintained , overhauled and inspected cranes they gained valuable insight to how they should be inspected and tested. John serves on the NCCCO Crane Inspector Maintenance Committee after helping to get the Inspector Certification Program established on the Crane Inspector Task Force. John was involved on the separate groups for these cranes to make test questions.

Many factors can affect the structural integrity of booms. Since there are various configurations for lattice and hydraulic installations and jibs, masts and supports such as super lifts and counterweights, an inspector needs to understand the methods of the initial assembly and then determine if the welds and members meet the OEM specs. At Sylvan Enterprises our inspectors have been certified welders and can see defects such as bent sections or even repairs that do not meet code, often times to hide an accident. We research the model and make for any upgrades or recalls also as that is important. We have the tools needed to measure booms and check welds for defects such as Non Destructive Tests (NDT).
